CMC’s footprint extends across the UK, Germany, and the Netherlands, with additional sites in Italy and facilities in Georgia, North Carolina, and Ohio, USA. This geographical diversity allows CMC to exert precise control over consumable material costs, enhancing customer trust in total ownership estimates.

A significant portion of CMC’s revenue stems from the North American market, which contributes 58% of total sales. The Paper-Pro machine has replaced 24 manual packing stations at DHL, adhering to sustainability objectives through its 100% recyclable packaging. “It’s a quick, efficient machine,” Proenca noted. “With easy operation and straightforward installation, our packaging consistency has improved significantly, cutting down on void space.”

Enhancing Materials Handling

As material handling becomes increasingly sophisticated, providers like Element Logic integrate GeneSys machines with Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS). According to Ane Furu, Vice President of Product Management, this integration enhances overall operations. A project with Avantor highlighted how small parts can be seamlessly delivered to packing stations through an automated process, achieving a remarkable level of efficiency.

“By reducing the manual packing requirements, we’ve saved 30,000 kg of carbon annually,” Furu boasted, noting that GeneSys operates at 70% faster speeds than traditional methods.

Adapting to Evolving Market Needs

The aftermath of the pandemic led to a surge in e-commerce automation, prompting considerable investments, yet recent trends indicate a shift towards optimizing existing systems rather than building new ones from scratch. Indeed, the sector still experiences an impressive growth rate of 8%. Ponti acknowledges the necessity for CMC to adapt to older distribution centers operating at high capacities. “Our approach focuses on compact, plug-and-play solutions that minimize disruption during transitions,” he shared.

With an estimated 1,300 new fulfillment centers built each year globally, CMC is ready to meet the demand for advanced packaging automation in older facilities. Their new compact models, including the CartonWrap Duo and GeneSys Compact, create boxes on demand, reducing waste and improving operational efficiency.

One standout product, aptly named the Super Vertical, has generated excitement due to its ability to package items in flexible or semi-rigid bags. This space-efficient machine boasts a filling speed of up to 500 units per hour, turning heads in the logistics community.
